Calling All Door Manufacturers and Installers! Looking to Take Your Product to the Next Level?
Introducing the perfect partner for sliding, French and bifold doors – stainless steel custom threshold drains!
Threshold drains are a linear drain installed along the door line, eliminating the need for a raised threshold. This holds obvious advantages for accessibility, making threshold drains ideal for commercial doors as well as domestic, where a nasty raised threshold poses a trip hazard as well as a difficult obstacle to negotiate with wheelchairs, prams, and for the less able-bodied.
Beyond accessibility, stainless steel threshold drains hold a visual advantage. Rather than a raised threshold to interrupt the visual flow from an indoor to an outdoor space (or from a shower to the surrounding bathroom for that matter), threshold grates offer a discrete threshold line, with the option of either heelguard stainless steel grate covers, or, the almost invisible, tile insert style.
What’s the Difference Between Heelguard and Tile Insert Style Custom Threshold Drains?
Functionally, very little. Both styles of drain covers are an effective threshold drainage product. The difference between these linear drains is really an aesthetic one.
What Do They Look Like?
Heelguard Stainless Steel Threshold Grates
Simply put, sleek stainless steel linear bar grating. Depending upon the look you are after, grates can be plated in gold or chrome, laser printed or coloured. Click here to learn more about HEELGUARD grates.
Tile Insert Threshold Grates
Installed, tile insert threshold grates are very discrete. From the surface they look little more than a tile with a narrow slot down the edge, which is used for drainage rather that a more traditional grill or grate.
Tile insert threshold grates can be used with a variety of tiles, for example ceramic, copper, natural stone (such as marble), chrome, crystal, terracotta, travertine, glass, luxtouch. Tile insert threshold grates can even be used with tile mosaics.
When paired with a tile suitable for both indoor and outdoor usage, open French doors and tile insert threshold grates can certainly enhance the feeling of bringing the outdoors in and add a sense of expanse to a space.

How Do Threshold Drains Work?
Threshold drains are a form of linear drainage. They feature an easy to install stainless steel channel over which sits the drainage grate (heelguard threshold grates) or tile insert drain cover. Water is then funneled through the narrow drainage grates or slots into the channel to the drain outlet (or outlets).
Don’t let the narrow aperture of the drainage inlets convince you that this is a sub-par drainage product, in fact, rather than the more traditional form of point drainage (which would be unsuitable as a threshold drainage solution anyway), this linear drainage product has the advantage of being able to collect water along the length of the drain.
